Bicycle servicing and repairs

Work carried out on most types of bikes: road, mountain, hybrid, BMX or children’s bikes.

A basic check, adjust lube and clean service including: brakes, gears, headset, bottom bracket and wheels from £70 plus parts if required.

Full strip down and rebuild from £130. This includes new cables and new bar tape.

Wheelbuilding

If you have a particular hub and rim combination that you would like then I can build these into a wheel for you with your choice of spokes.

I can also rebuild your existing wheels/hubs with new spokes from £45 and service the wheel from £25.

Upgrades

Groupset upgrades (or downgrades should you wish) carried out to your requirements and instructions.

Single speed conversions carried out to road or mountain bike with fixed gear if dropouts allow or single freewheel. Gravel or mountain bikes converted to single chainring. Tri bars fitted.

Custom bike builds

If you prefer to buy a new frame, groupset and wheels to buying an off the shelf bike then I can build this up for you. This could be using your existing components or wheels on to a new frame.

Retro builds. I can help sourcing parts and putting together your Eroica bike.

Mail order bikes built from £50.

Accessories fitted

I can fit a range of accessories to your specification including racks, luggage systems, computers, mudguards saddlebags etc.

Dynohub lighting systems installed, including wiring and wheelbuilding.

Delivery and collection available

Collection and delivery for £5 per trip. This is within about 10 miles of Stockport. I am happy to meet up half way.

About Us

Sockets and Sprockets was formed by Dave Colley in 2017 and offer quality cycle repairs operating from Stockport.

Dave will carry out simple repairs at your home or for more involved work will take your cycle to his workshop and deliver it back to you on completion of the work.

An experienced cyclist Dave represented Team GB in duathlon (Run Bike Run) World and European age group Championships.

He qualified as a cycle mechanic in 2017. Sockets and Sprockets is Dave’s “hands on” hobby business which balances his day job as a Chartered Electrical Engineer.

Consequently Sockets and Sprockets is not about fast response and turnaround but is a fully insured, professional business offering personal service which he hope you will find friendly, diligent and competitively priced.

For 2024 Sockets and Sprockets is helping to maintain the National Cycling Network by donating to Sustrans.
